English or Malay?

Yee Ching is good at her Sukukata, she is constantly usisng the sukukata to help in reading the Malay words. She will be reading out loud when she saw the name of the coffee shop, "Kedai Kopi Matahari". I think she is pretty good on that.

But the problem is, how to differentiate whether it's a Malay or English word in the eyes of a 5 year old? I found that she is trying to pronounce the English word using the sukukata too. And this happen quite often.

Eg, at Watson, she read the word Dove as Do-VE. She read the word Canon as Ca-non. I will correct her by just telling her that it was English and shouldn't pronounce using sukukata.

And I just wondering, how to teach a little girl to differentiate between Malay or English?

Ballet girl

Yee Ching had started her ballet lessons last month and she certianly enjoys the lessons very much as I could see smile in her face through out the lessons.

I enrolled her out of her own request when she saw the commercial ads of Darlie which shown some pretty girl dancing on the stage.

I think ballet is good as it can improve her posture and also a good way of exercising. She can meet new friends too. By the way, whenever i saw her not sitting in a good posture, I will tease her..."why ballet girl sit like that?", she will then change and sit in proper way. :) Good ya!

Sleep in her own room!

After four years of squeezing in between the parent, little girl finally agreed to sleep in her own room. Last night was her first time sleeping alone. We just put a single mattress on the floor with her pillow and blanket and she was all excited with her new territory! No fuss from her, and we even don't have to accomapany her in her room for the first time.

But poor mummy didn't have a good night sleep. I woke up by kid's crying and went to check on Yee Ching twice but she was sleeping soundly on the mattress. Must be my own imagination, I guess! In fact, she has a good night sleep though she was disturbed by the nasty cough once a while.

Let's see if she's still willing to sleep by her own tongiht!
